Anyone looking for an excellent online learning platform must have heard of Udemy. If not, then in this review, you will learn about them, what they offer, and whether it is worth your investment.

Udemy is one of the largest educational platforms available that caters to people who want to learn online. Udemy provides millions of students with access to various courses created by independent instructors. These instructors are not affiliated with Udemy but are all experts in their respective fields. Udemy helps learners find courses they are looking for while also allowing expert instructors to share their wealth of knowledge.

If you are short on time, here is a quick summary:

Quick Summary of Udemy Review

Udemy aims to provide an affordable and unique learning experience. They have over 200,000 online courses available that cover a variety of different topics. They also have courses on multiple subcategories like business, creativity, and personal development, catering to all the needs of users in one go. They also provide options when it comes to payment; you can either buy a course that you want to take or get a personal subscription plan.

The courses are structured in a way that facilitates better learning. You can do it on your own time and at a pace that is comfortable for you. The one-time payment courses on Udemy start at $12.99, while its subscription plan costs $30 per month. After finishing each course, you get a certificate of completion. This certificate must be verified and might not be acceptable professionally.

Individual Udemy courses come with lifetime access. You purchase it once and can go through it any time you want. You also get a 30-day refund policy if you are not satisfied with the quality of the course. There are also tons of free courses available on Udemy that you can go through without making any financial commitment. Some of these free courses are also quite interesting and informative.

  • User-friendly and easy to navigate.
  • A variety of courses on several topics.
  • Flexible and affordable payment and subscription option.
  • Over 500 free courses.
  • A 30-day refund policy if you are not happy.
  • Instructors are not affiliated with Udemy.
  • The quality of some content can be average.
  • The certificates are not verified.

I would recommend Udemy for people who just want to learn a few new skills at an affordable price. If you get a subscription, you get thousands of courses to learn from, some of which are good. You don’t get an accredited certificate, and that can be a bummer, but if you just want to take courses to get better at what you do or learn new skills, Udemy is undoubtedly worth it.

Udemy Review In 2024: Worth it?

Udemy is essentially an online learning platform, but its core principles can differ from its competitors. It was founded in 2010 and is considered one of the world’s largest online-based learning platforms. They have over 60 million users that take advantage of their 200 thousand courses (at least that is what they say).

Udemy provides a large variety of reasonably priced courses, but the drawback is that the instructors need to be more affiliated with Udemy, which makes the courses a little unreliable. Though some world-renowned instructors have their courses available on Udemy, What sets Udemy apart is the availability of over 500 free courses.

Udemy has a course on everything from lifestyle to coding, but knowing whether it is right for you is crucial.

Who should get Udemy?

It is natural to wonder if Udemy is the right fit for you.

If you are looking for different courses on one platform, then Udemy answers your prayers. Udemy offers the best variety of courses on so many different topics that your learning potential will know no bounds as long as you desire to keep learning. From topics like Python and Java to crocheting and culinary science, Udemy has got it. Udemy can help you learn new skills for both personal and professional development.

The courses are also designed for everyone; from advanced learners to beginners, there is something for everyone on Udemy. This sets Udemy apart from its competitors, like Eduonix or Skillshare. If you have a passion for learning, Udemy is the place for you, as you will require no experience or training.

Udemy is also ideal for students who want to finish their education and are looking for free courses, as Udemy has a lot of good courses available without any cost. It is also a great platform to learn new languages at your own pace, which can be very helpful for foreign exchange students.

But Udemy is not just great for students, as it provides an open opportunity for any instructor who wants to teach online. If you have a skill worth sharing, Udemy is the place for you to shine.

How much does Udemy cost?

Now, we come to the ever-important question of money. So, how much does Udemy cost?

Udemy makes it very clear that they are not the ones who set the prices of the courses available on the platform. The pricing solely relies on the instructors. But oftentimes, during promotions, Udemy or instructors provide courses with discounts. Since the prices are decided by the instructors, they can vary and are inconsistent throughout the platform.

Udemy also offers a 30-day money-back guarantee, so if you are not satisfied with the course content, you can ask for a refund.

They also offer tons of free courses, and just because they are free does not necessarily mean they are of bad quality. Some of the free courses available are well-designed and quite informative.

If you don’t want to go through the hassle of buying individual courses, Udemy also offers a personal subscription plan that lets you access thousands of videos. It provides you with all their top courses from the best instructors. It also comes with a career guide and supplemental exercises to assess the level of your skills. The plan costs $29.99 if billed monthly. The cost can be significantly different if paid annually. There is also a 7-day free trial period to check out whether or not the subscription is worth the money.

My Opinion of Udemy

I decided to give Udemy a fair shot by using the 7-day free trial period feature and going through as much content as possible to see if the subscription plan is worth it.

The user interface is well-designed, and the site is easily navigable. That is an important aspect of any online-based learning platform. It needs to be user-friendly to cater to all different types of students.

After signing up, I was greeted with a list of courses on various topics taught by the most highly-rated Udemy instructors. With this plan, you get thousands of courses that you can go through without buying them individually. It is especially useful for people working in the IT industry, as there are plenty of courses available on web design and coding.

As I tried checking out courses, now and then the review prompt kept popping up, and I felt quite annoyed by it. It made me aware of the strategy Udemy uses to get good reviews. It didn’t sit well with me, but I decided to focus on the positive parts.

The course content looked to be very well-researched and extensive, with supplemental exercises available. You can easily evaluate how much you have learned. I also enjoyed the fact that the courses are self-paced, so I can take my own time to understand topics that seem a little difficult for me.

A few of the courses did seem a little outdated and stale, and they lacked depth in terms of knowledge. While most of the courses were helpful, fun, and engaging, others just missed the mark.

Overall, my experience was positive, and I found Udemy to be on par with its competitors when it comes to the variety of content.

What did I like about Udemy?

What I liked the most about Udemy was the fact that it was very easy to use. The sign-up process is hassle-free and straightforward. All the courses are well organized and categorized, making it easy to find them. I also enjoyed the convenience that Udemy offers. It lets you buy individual courses that interest you, rather than forcing you to buy a subscription plan. The courses are also self-paced, making it easier for you to understand and learn.

I appreciate that Udemy offers over 200 thousand courses on a variety of different topics. There are also special courses available for advanced learners, so that is a plus.

Udemy also offers a language selection option. You can get the course you want translated into the language you understand the best. This is a great feature for people who don’t speak English. I liked the inclusivity and thoughtfulness behind this.

Udemy supports multiple payment methods. The courses are also reasonably priced and quite affordable. You also get a lot of good courses at discounts occasionally. And my favorite thing about Udemy is their 30-day refund policy if you are not satisfied.

Like any online learning platform, Udemy has a lot of pros and a few cons to consider.

Udemy offers a wide range of courses at an affordable price, and some of the good courses are even free. You also get a chance to select the language you prefer to learn.

However, none of the courses available on Udemy are accredited, and Udemy does not endorse the instructors, so some of the content is of poor quality.

If you are a teacher and want to teach globally, Udemy can give you a platform to do so, and I think that is a great opportunity for teachers worldwide.

Udemy is a platform dedicated to making education more accessible, and it is always a good thing to do. Students from all over the world love what Udemy has to offer.

So in my opinion, Udemy is definitely worth a bang for your buck.
